Old Faithful Snow Lodge is one of two lodges open during the winter and summer at Yellowstone National Park. It is located at the end of Old Faithful Bypass Road. Although the newest lodge in the park, completed in 1999, the lodge was built in a charming rustic style. Heavy timbers, log walls, cedar-shingled roof and classic western furnishings make the Old Faithful Snow Lodge a faithful continuation of Yellowstone traditions. Its 134 units include modern hotel rooms and rustic cabins, all with private baths. Pets are allowed in the cabins. An ATM machine is available to guests, but televisions, telephones and internet connections are absent to keep Yellowstone a wild adventure. The Obsidian Dining room and Geyser Grill serve meals. The Bear Den Gift Store offers many attractive souvenirs. The lodge is open in the winter from December to March and summer from May to October.
In the winter, snowcoach tours are available. Snowcoaches are sturdy vehicles with tracks like those on tanks. They carry passengers safely through the snow to see such sights as the Canyon when the Lower Falls are frozen. The coaches are warm and have knowledgeable staff acting as tour guides to point out attractions. When used on private tours, snowcoaches stop when tourists want to get out and take pictures.
For those who prefer to get out of the wild on foot, snowshoes, and rental skis are available for the trails. Ice skates are available for fun on the ice. Guided tours are available for hikers. The lodge also offers hot beverages for tired hikers who want to relax and enjoy watching winter scenery from the lounge.
Frosty Fun and Nordic Heaven are two winter vacation packages. Visitors who select the Frosty Fun package stay for at least two nights and receive two breakfasts per person, one welcome gift per adult, one hour of hot tub use, unlimited ice skating, and one 10 percent discount card for use at the gift stop, tours, rentals and meals, with the exception of special events. On the Nordic Heaven tour, visitors stay a minimum of two nights at Old Faithful Snow Lodge, ride a snowcoach and receive two breakfasts and one welcome gift per adult, one ski rental per person per day, unlimited ice skating, and a 10 percent discount on gift shop purchases, tours, rentals and meals outside of special events.
During the summer, tourists can enjoy greenery all around the lodge, and hiking the Upper Geyser Basin and the boardwalks. Old Faithful and other geothermal formations are within walking distance of the lodge. Summer package adventure vacations include Yellowstone Couples Adventure, Wild about Yellowstone, and The Total Yellowstone. Lodging and Learning Programs include Essential Yellowstone, Spring Wolf and Bear Discovery, Trails through Yellowstone, Old Times on the Grand Tour, Roosevelt Rendezvous, and Summer Wildlife Expedition.
